The council is proposing to address the high vacancy rates in North Harrow shops by creating a Local Development Order to allow certain changes of use (of the ground floor) without planning permission.
It is aimed at premises in the "underperforming" areas:
* on Station Road near North Harrow underground station
* on the North side of Pinner Road (the Post Office side) on both sides of Station Road
* near North Harrow Methodist Church at the junction of Pinner Road with George V Avenue.
It will not permit changes of use to Drinking Establishments or Hot Food takeaways.
Map and full details available now at www.harrow.gov.uk/ldo or soon at North Harrow library.
A leaflet will be distributed to households and businesses - we can have our say until 24 February.
See the council consultation page at http://harrow-consult.limehouse.co.uk/portal.
** There is a little confusion on the council website about the consultation dates - we've asked the council to sort this out.

The entrance to Cambridge Road car park (on Pinner Road between Broadway Parade and the Broadwalk) is to be repaved and given better lighting and better pedestrian access. Some diseased trees near the entrance will be removed.
Would more people know about it and use it if the council renamed it the North Harrow car park?
Work is under way on two new parking bays outside Churchill Court (opposite North Harrow underground station).
There is to be a review of North Harrow parking in February 2012.

New community notice boards have been ordered for the underground station, the entrance to Woodlands Open Space, the car park and the library. They are expected at the end of January.
Street banners designed by local schoolchildren will be installed w/c 16 January.
North Harrow Business Directory to be launched by the end of January; website by the end of February.
